Crested Serpent Eagle (Spilornis cheela)
Crested Serpent Eagle (Spilornis cheela)

My Observations

One the most easily identifiable and conspicuous eagles residing in the forests of India. Size can appear to be rather medium sized and compact to fairly large, bulky individuals.

One of the most commonest of all the eagles spotted in various locations, perched or gliding. Extremely vocal either while perched or flying and has an unmistakable distinct call which is different from any of the other eagles I have heard.

Not a shy bird and is absolutely fine when individuals get close to the eagle. Capturing it on camera has been rather simple.

Genrally seen in the forested area, occasionally straying away i.e one regular sighting at Akkulam Lake (TRV) -KL on 2 consecutive years only during winter (Nov /Dec)

Sightings have been mainly in forested ares of Kerala (Silent ValleyNP,Wayanad,Tholpetty,Muthanga) & at a Dukes  resort  outskirts of Trivandrum. Besides  had many sightings at Palghat- Walayar belt

In KA had many sightings at Kutta Coorg.
